Decorative Styles and Tips on Building a Beach-themed Room
Children's rooms are always fun to decorate for they are filled with bright and colorful items and furniture. But the start up of deciding what theme to make of your kid's room can be challenging. One suggestion is to choose a theme that can last for up until their preteens such as a beach set-up room.
Setting up a beach theme requires hard work for different finds that can resemble a beach can be found in any store, yet the right items for your own set-up may need more specific items. With a beach-inspired theme, you would want the interior to represent relaxation, comfort, and brightness.
1. Flooring: Setting up a room with dark blue flooring could look a little gloomy, but for the theme, would be a perfect idea as the color resembles the deep sea. Also, this color can make decorating easier as you will be playing with different sets of shades.
2. Window fixtures: Planning on what can cover the window area is another factor that is important in the whole room set-up. For curtains, a pale blue and very thin chiffon-style drape to cover the window can seem relaxing. Also, the almost clear-like material can still let some light shine through the room which is applicable for a beach setting.
3. Wall: Lining up small canvas prints on different beach scenes like flippers and goggles, sailboat, or scuba diving mask are just some of the few designs you can use to brighten up the theme. Try choosing uncommon finds at the beach to make the wall area more interesting. Another idea would be having a large print covering almost the entire wall. With canvas printing options nowadays, stretching a photograph in large format is possible. Perhaps a submarine or a cartoon-like cruise ship can suit a much larger wall design.
4. Furniture: Less is better since beaches consist mostly of sand. Chairs and tables would fit better if made from rattan material giving the room scene a more tropical feel. Since the color of rattan is a little bit brownish and monotonous, be sure you highlight other areas with brighter items to balance the brightness. Beanbags and baby hammocks can also be of use as an add on to add extra appeal, plus having floor and hanging furniture makes the room a much more fun place to hang out in.
5. Lighting: Lights made out of shells or plastic ceiling lights customized into shapes like fish, starfish, squid, or sea horse would look good for the upper part. To make the lighting brighten up the room, multi-colored lights can make the room have a childlike appeal also. Just make sure that you get to install regular white lights for they will be needed also at times.
6. Decorations: Real items like aquarium tanks, scuba gas tanks, fishing poles, or flippers can be a unique way of decorating as compared to your usual fish and starfish decors. Books about the sea can also serve as decorations and good reference materials for your kids.
There are tons of other things you can work on with your beach-inspired room. Just remember that the more odd or unique an item is, the more a room will be noticed for the theme.
